Giving & Missions

The people of Fallingbrook are committed to giving and to serving others in the name of Christ.

At Fallingbrook

During 2015 Fallingbrook was able to help support "The Kingston-Galloway Summer Camp program to employ some leaders and sports & crafts equipment.
he Anniversary Mission Project for 2014 – our 67th – is a partnership with other churches in our Presbytery, to help sponsor a family – mum dad and little boy – to come to Canada from a refugee camp where they have been living since escaping the war in Syria. This project also inspired another four churches in the Presbytery of Pickering to join in!!

In joining this partnership we will not only be raising money, but we will also be helping Reverend Ibrahim Wahby, who is the minister of LINC ministries a mission charge (not quite a traditional church as yet) of our Presbytery. Ibrahim has a ministry to Arabic speaking Christians here in Scarborough. We received notice of the family that we can help to sponsor, through Ibrahim's work with newcomers to Canada from the Middle East. His congregation is most anxious to help with the new family as soon as they can be brought to Canada. So the partnership involved in this project will put us on the cutting edge of Mission – perhaps we will not only help a refugee family but we will be able to learn more about our Arabic speaking brothers and sisters in Christ through Ibrahim and his congregation.

Our Anniversary Project for 2013 was in support of Evangel Hall, a downtown Mission of the Presbyterian Church in Canada helping homeless and impoverished clients.

In 2012, we helped train and support

Youth Leaders for a 7-week summer day camp program run for children from many cultures through the Flemingdon Gateway mission (in Thorncliffe Park, Toronto).

The previous year we were able to help the Saskatoon Native Circle Ministry (to link to their website click here). This money went towards the purchase of an air conditioning unit for their building. Saskatoon Native Circle Ministry is supported by Canada Ministries through Presbyterians Sharing.

During the colder weather the "Warm & Fuzzies" line is put up to collect new mittens, hats, scarves, socks, underwear (for men, women & children)  for Evangel Hall Mission.

Again this year Fallingbrook will be helping to restock the supply of kits (relief, school, sewing, hygiene) which are distributed by The Mennonite Central Committee. These kits go to disaster areas all around the world throughout the year. Bags and instructions of what to include are available at the start of Advent. Completed kits may be brought in and put under the tree in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Food Drive

For the past 25 years the first Saturday in December has brought a special annual project to Fallingbrook. Once again this year, the local food drive for the Birchcliff Bluffs Food Bank was manned by an enthusiastic group from our congregation. We knocked on doors in the immediate vicinity of the church and were rewarded with a generous response of Christmas food donations. The food bank staff is always appreciative of our efforts and it is also a great opportunity to keep our church profile very healthy in the neighbourhood.

Too many people were involved to mention everyone, but it was wonderful to have Philip join us in our efforts, as he had a chance to chat with people in the community. It is important to recognize Cathy Farintosh for her enthusiasm and efforts in organizing and leading the troops…thank you Cathy!

Many families will enjoy the Christmas season a little more because of the generosity of the community and the efforts of our church...well done to everyone involved!

Presbyterian World Service & Development
PWS&D is an agency of the Presbyterian Church in Canada that supports projects around the world in partnership with other Christian organizations. These projects alleviate suffering and lead to self-sufficiency. To link to their website, click here.

Fallingbrook supports PWS&D through weekly collections in a "Mission Jar", and through Anniversary Mission Projects. In the past these have included digging wells in Africa.

Evangel Hall
Evangel Hall is a mission of the Presbyterian Church. It is located at 552 Adelaide Street West near Bathurst Street. People come there for meals, clothing, friendship, worship and counselling. To link to their website, click here.

Fallingbrook is a regular supporter of this downtown mission by making sandwiches every second Sunday of the month and donating new clothes.
